Things to do
- Buy a USB drive (preferably 16 GB) and store all my important files in it.
- Install gNewSense or Ubuntu on my computer and get rid of Windows once and for all.
- If possible, upgrade my system RAM to 1 GB.
- Try to learn a few programming languages - XHTML, CSS, Python and C++. I’m not going to make a calendar on when I should start learning a particular language. Instead, I’ll first start with XHTML and CSS.
- Learning XHTML and CSS: I’ll read a few books on the subject (I have HTML AND XHTML: The Definitive Guide, 6th Edition and HTML Dog : Best Practice Guide to XHTML and CSS), do a bit of coding and try to create a Wordpress theme or maybe help someone with their web page or code.
- Messing with snakes and jewels: I don’t know anything about Python or Perl, so I’ll learn from the resources recommended by Eric. S. Raymond in his document How to become a Hacker.
- C and C+: I know that C and C++ are very important languages, but are somewhat difficult to learn, so I’ll learn them later.
- Learn more about open source software and participate in a few open source projects like Firefox and Ubuntu.
