Things to do

  1. Buy a USB drive (preferably 16 GB) and store all my important files in it.
  2. Install gNewSense or Ubuntu on my computer and get rid of Windows once and for all.
  3. If possible, upgrade my system RAM to 1 GB.
  4. Try to learn a few programming languages - XHTML, CSS, Python and C++. I’m not going to make a calendar on when I should start learning a particular language. Instead, I’ll first start with XHTML and CSS.
    • Learning XHTML and CSS: I’ll read a few books on the subject (I have HTML AND XHTML: The Definitive Guide, 6th Edition and HTML Dog : Best Practice Guide to XHTML and CSS), do a bit of coding and try to create a Wordpress theme or maybe help someone with their web page or code.
    • Messing with snakes and jewels: I don’t know anything about Python or Perl, so I’ll learn from the resources recommended by Eric. S. Raymond in his document How to become a Hacker.
    • C and C+: I know that C and C++ are very important languages, but are somewhat difficult to learn, so I’ll learn them later.
  5. Learn more about open source software and participate in a few open source projects like Firefox and Ubuntu.
